Workwear Picks

Finding outfits that look fashionable and appropriate can be difficult so I've decided to put together some key pieces that I think would be great for either work or uni. These pieces I have listed can be worn easily time and time again by styling in different ways - they could be dressed up for a fancy event or dressed down for a more casual office look.

Many websites such as Topshop and Pretty Little Thing have a workwear section complete with suits, blouses and trousers. I find this so helpful when it comes to finding smart clothes even when they are not for work!

1. Belted Jersey Midi Dress £29

This belted Topshop midi dress is perfect workwear, it is one of my favourites on this list! It's a simple piece that could be worn with some chunky boots in Winter or ballet flats in summer. You could also wear a chunky knit over this with some tights for those snowy days.

2. Bell Sleeve Chuck On Dress £25

This Topshop 'chuck on' dress is great for those days where you are literally looking for something to just throw on and run out the door. It's currently on sale and it comes in petite and tall also! This would look great with some heeled boots and hoop earrings.

3. Black Gingham Cigarette Trousers £25

These gingham trousers are so cute and would look great with a black turtleneck or a chunky knit jumper with some white trainers. They come with a belt attached and you can also get a matching jacket if you are wanting to look sharp for an upcoming meeting.

4. Grey Longline Roll Neck Jumper With Wool £32

This grey wool jumper is perfect winter wear for the office or an early lecture. You can pair it with a printed midi skirt, over a dress or even just simple black jeans/trousers. Having a plain cosy jumper is great for this weather as they are versatile and can be worn in so many different ways.

5. Black Cigarette Trousers £20

Every workwear wardrobe requires a pair of black trousers! They go with everything and look great with a patterned blouse or a classic slouchy cardigan. This pair are £20 from Missguided which are on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

6. Long Sleeve Cropped Shirt in Sketchy Faces Print £25

I'm in love with this face printed shirt, it's so funky and will make your workwear a bit more exciting! You can pair this with a simple pair of black trousers or jeans with a pair of black heeled boots for a smarter look.

7. Chain Loafer Flat Shoes £25

These chain style loafers are great for work and general use as they will go with everything! They have a thick sole and a slight heel which makes them more durable than a pair of flimsy pumps. Made from a faux leather they are also suitable for vegans - another plus.

8. Rose Pleated Full Midi Skirt £30

This pleated skirt comes in such a gorgeous rose colour and has an elasticated waistband so you don't have to worry about lunchtime! I would pair this with a statement tee or a cream jumper along with a pair of chunky trainers.

9. Black Checked Balloon Leg Trouser £25

These grid checked balloon leg trousers are a great pair of statement trousers, these would look great with a simply white tee or turtleneck along with casual chunky trainers or a smart pair of loafers.

10. Smock Dress With Frill Hem £20

This smock style dress is another favourite on my list. It would look great with an embellished headband, some tights and heeled boots along with statement earrings. I think this would look super cute in summer also with some ballet pumps a bright mini handbag to match!

11. Irregular Dot Print Button Front Shirt £19.99

This printed shirt is another classic workwear piece as it can be styled with simple pieces such as a black skirt like the one in the picture or also with a pair of black trousers. I think it would also look good with a black pinafore dress and some tights.

12. Polka Dot Satin Bias Cut Skirt £22.99

When I was making this list there were so many gorgeous satin midi skirts that I fell in love with but this is definitely one of my favourites. It is a brown colour which I think looks great in winter and I love how the model has styled it - I would wear it like this or with a white/cream jumper and chunky trainers - this makes it a bit more casual if you prefer.

13. Puff Sleeve T Shirt £16

This Topshop Puff Sleeve is only £16 and is classic for work - it takes a simple tee but adds a statement twist of the puffed sleeves. This makes it a bit more fashionable for work and can be worn with a black high waisted skirt and tights or for a more simple look - with black jeans and boots.

14. Black and White Lace Up Trainers £29

This pair of simple trainers are great for work - especially if you aren't allowed to wear branded trainers. These are smart and look great with workwear - especially printed trousers. They have a textured tread, thick soles and are made from smooth leather-effect material.

15. Black Layered Look Jumper Shirt £18.75

This layered jumper look is great for the office - I would wear with a pair of fitted trousers and the pair of trainers I linked above. I think this would also look great with a pair of leather look trousers for a night out or a dinner date.
